Quality of Life is Determined by the Little Things
I came across this quote:
The happiness of most people we know is
not ruined by great catastrophes or fatal
errors, but by the repetition of slowly
destructive little things.
- Ernest Dimnet
While this quote focuses on the negative, it applies to both the things we like and
dislike in our lives.
Any negative effects we have from stress, bad eating habits, lack or exercise, smoking, etc. are caused by the accumulations of little things we do, and repeat on a daily basis.
On the other hand, the comfort and pleasure we get from life are usually from little things we do, often on a daily basis, and repeat.
To sum it up, our life's happiness is more influenced by our small, daily rituals (such as that morning cup of tea or coffee, or cuddling up with a good book at night), rather than big things, like a one-time "dream vacation".
