Peanuts Zen: Linus Explains Resetting to Charlie Brown
Previously, I have talked about my mental concept of resetting, where you contemplate that the present moment is new and unattached to the past - like a new game, the score is "reset" to 0.
This concept calms and soothes me when I get overwhelmed and frustrated. It helps to reinforce the idea of living in the present moment and not dwelling on past failures and disappointments.
Yesterday's Peanuts cartoon featured Linus explaining how he uses his security blanket to implement a similar technique. This cartoon was originally published on June 19, 1961.
I think that the link I just gave is only good for 4 weeks. In case you can no longer view the strip, here is a description of it:
Linus: "This blanket absorbs all my fears and frustrations."
Linus: "At the end of each day I shake it out the door, thus scattering those fears and frustrations to the wind!"
Charlie Brown: "What about tomorrow?"
Linus: "Tomorrow I start with a clean blanket."
Linus: "not unlike the proverbial clean slate."
